Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has warned that it will take an action against President Lazarus Chakwera’s administration if it will mantain its approach to development.

Speaking in an interview with the media, HRDC chairperson Gift Trapence expressed concern with the pace which the Tonse-led government is taking towards development. He added that they will mobilise the citizenry to demonstrate.

The human rights group has been criticizing the Tonse led government for taking its time to deliver on campaign promises.

During one of his national addresses, the president said it will not be possible to fulfill the campaign promises in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic. This, subjected the president to heavy criticism from some quarters.

The Tonse government made alot of mouthwatering promises during the campaign period. Some of the promises are, creation of a million jobs in a year, reduction of passport costs, and introduction of a duty free week.

Now in it’s 8 months of governing, Malawians are yet to start enjoying the promised life. Some people are losing hope in the Chakwera regime.
