Former Nyasatimes editor Thom Chiumia also known as Thom Twee on social media has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping an under age girl in the United Kingdom.
The Leeds Magistrate Court today Friday 23/04/2021 found Chiumia guilty on all 11 counts of sexual abuse to a minor.
The sexual abuse happened at Chiumia’s home where the girl, then 14 years old, was working as a babysitter for Chiumia’s two children.
On the day, Chiumia and his wife had left their home to attend awards ceremony. However, he left his wife at the event and sneaked back home where he forced himself on the girl.
After the matter was reported to the authorities, police had then evacuated Chiumia’s wife and kids for forensic investigations as the home was a crime scene.
The investigations went on for over three years while he was on bail.
He resigned as editor of Nyasatimes following his initial arrest.
