Journalist Deguzman Kaminjolo has left UTM for DPP. The writer has categorically refused that the switch for the parties was not due to the money, opposing the stories doing circles on social media.
Deguzman took to Facebook to dismiss the allegations of being enticed with money as “bullshit”. He said that his support for President Muntharika and Atupele Muluzi is “out of conviction and weighed in a scale, my free choice is tilting towards DPP”.
He said that he no longer supports UTM which is in alliance with Malawi Congress Party (MCP). “What we loved in UTM is no longer there and those promises for real change have been replaced by vindictiveness”. Kaminjolo further said that he has personal reasons not to associate with MCP. “At their worst they threatened my family,” he said.
On the flip side of the coin, most opposition social media users are claiming that those dumping their grouping to support DPP-UDF alliance are being driven by monetary offers.
