The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has hinted it will arrest more people in connection to looting and plundering of Covid-19 funds.

In a statement issued by the law enforcing body, the MPS detectives are on the ground in the hunt for the criminals.

“MPS detectives are still on the ground and more arrests will follow”, reads part of the statement.

At the moment, five more arrests have been made bringing the total to 19. This follows a directive by President Lazarus Chakwera to bring to book all those involved in abusing funds meant for fighting the pandemic.

Speaking when he was addressing the nation the previous night, Chakwera warned to apply the law on anyone who has taken part in the corrupt act.

Some of those that have been arrested are; former Director of Information Mzati Mkolokosa, and Administration Officer in the Office of the President and Cabinet Rashid Mtelera.

Abuse of Covid-19 funds has also seen Minister of Labour Ken Kandodo Banda losing his position.
