British Broadcasting Station (BBC) has irked Malawians after initiating a debate on social media on whether it is right for the President Lazarus Chakwera to reward national football team players for a win or not.

After making the post, thousands of Malawians stormed BBC`s Facebook page to condemn the media outlet for interfering with affairs of Malawi.

King Yongo commented, “He is not a mere politician, he is the president of Malawi and he is at liberty to reward athletes.”

Wesley Macheso also commented, “It is not your business what Malawi does or does not with her team.”

Others have blamed the international media channel for fault finding. Salome Phiri commented, “Why are you always looking for the negative side on everything? It’s just a normal gift and don’t politicize it.”

Malawi will play Senegal this evening in Group B`s final match. Chakwera has pledged to gift each player K1 million, and half that amount for players on reserve if the team will progress to the knockout stages.
