Richard Mbulu - Flames Forward

The heavens continue to smile on Malawi national football team striker Richard Mbulu following his recent promotion in the Malawi Defence Force.

Mbulu has been promoted from corporal to sergeant in the military for scoring against Uganda, a goal that took Malawi to next year’s African Cup of Nations.

This comes after the former Mafco FC player received K500,000 from Capital Oil Refining Industry.

His promotion has influenced Malawians to call for promotion of two other Flames’ players John Banda and Micium Mhone in the police service.

On a sad note, Mbulu’s goal has sent Uganda national team captain, goalkeeper Dennis Onyango into retirement. Onyango has retired following his nation’s failure to qualify for the continental showdown which will be staged in Cameroon.

Malawi will be appearing in the tournament for the third time. They last participated in the tournament, in 2010.
