Minister of Information Gospel Kazako has said the rise in prices of fuel has not only affected Malawi but other countries in the region.
Speaking in an interview with a local radio station, Kazako said fuel prices have gone up in other countries like Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe among others, thus no need to crucify the current government over the matter.
When asked if the Chakwera led administration is going to put in place measures to mitigate the problem, the minister said the government has done enough already for the fuel prices to be hiked at that percentage.
Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) hiked the fuel prices a few days ago with effective midnight 10th October, citing depreciation of the local currency among other factors.
Petrol is now at K1, 150 per litre from K899.20, Diesel is selling at K1,120 per litre from K898.00, and Paraffin is K833.00 per litre from K719.60.
Meanwhile, there are fears that prices of commodities will go up in the country.
