Covid-19 hit Malawi public figures: Allan Ngumuya and other politicians test positive


Coronavirus is affecting Malawi in the worst way as some of the public figures have fallen victim to the pandemic.

The virus has hit the political and entertainment scene as former Karonga Central legislator Frank Mwenefumbo and veteran gospel musician, UTM senior member Allan Ngumuya are all covid-19 positive.

A member of parliament whose identity remains concealed also tested positive a few days ago. This has raised fear among Malawians since they used to believe the disease only affects the poor in African countries.

Malawi has close to 2000 cases of the affected. The country has recorded 59 cases of covid-19 in the past 24hours. It is one of the worst affected countries in the SADC region.

In a state address a few days ago, Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera said his government will follow different preventive measures in an effort to impede further spread of the virus. The president also cancelled independence day celebration on 6th July, in the name of prevention.

The number of cases in the whole world are close to 12 million. United States of America and Brazil are among the worst affected countries in the world.
