Government resources for plunder as a 12 member delegation is expected to accompany 5 Malawian athletes who will take part in the forthcoming Tokyo Olympics.
The delegation includes the Minister of Sports himself, the youthful Ulemu Msungama. Here is part of the list of officials who will be boarding the plane to the Asian nation for the games.
Principal Secretary in the relevant ministry Oliver Kumbambe, Director of Sports Jameson Ndalama, Sports Council Executive Secretary Henry Mereka, Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) President Jappie Mhango, Vice President Flora Mwandira, MOC General Secretary John Kaputa, MOC administrator Naomi Chinatu, and Athletics coach Pachisi Nyasulu.
The Tokyo bound athletes are, Asimenye Simwaka, Harriet Boniface, Archer David Areneo, Phillip Gomez, and Jessica Mwakwenda.
The news has angered Malawians that they feel like in the 57 years of celebrating self rule, the country has achieved nothing.
“Then you are celebrating 57 years of independence, what a waste,” said Andrew Lozo.
“This is nosense, this stupidity must stop. Why many officials than athletes? We are struggling economicaly hence there is no need for officials to travel in high numbers,” said Humble Itimu.
In Japan, both teams of officials and athletes will be given a five star treatment; they will get allowances for accommodation, meals, and travelling. This is despite the country facing economic woes.
