Malawi national football team the Flames gave away a two-goal lead to draw against Zimbabwe’s warriors in Cosafa Cup opener.
Polokwane City FC striker Khuda Muyaba gave the Meke Mwase side the lead in the 27th minute. The first half ended with the same scoreline. Came the second half, Malawi extended the lead through Schumaker Kuwali.
The warriors pulled one back a few minutes later. Then 10 minutes before the end of the game, Zimbabwe managed to claim an equaliser.
2-2 it ended. In a post match interview, Flames mentor Meke Mwase expressed dissatisfaction with his side’s display. However he stressed that he is using the tournament to test right combinations for the African Cup of Nations which will take place in Cameroon next year.
The result has dissapointed Malawians. They have bemoaned the team’s attitude which saw them lose in a painful fashion.
“Our players are an embarrassment. How on earth can we give away a 2-goal lead in the dying minutes?” Said Paul M’baya.
Malawi and Zimbabwe are two of the three teams from the SADC region which have qualified for the African Cup of Nations. The other team is Comoross Island.
