Malawi national football team the Flames are travelling to the neighboring Tanzania for a friendly match in the company of both good and bad news.

The Flames boarded the plane to Dar Es Salaam this afternoon. On a welcome note, Scotland based left-back Kieran Ngwenya has been cleared to feature for his motherland.

Ngwenya was holding a British passport. This means that the defender was not eligible to feature for the side.

On a sad note, the team will be making the trip to the Swahili land without top members of the technical panel.

Senior Coach Meke Mwase, his assistant Lovemore Fazili are set to miss the game having tested positive for Covid-19.

As if that is not enough, senior players Gerald Phiri Junior, Limbikani Mzava, John Banda, Fransisco Madinga and Peter Cholopi will miss the game due to different reasons.

Captain Mzava, Phiri will miss the game due to injuries, Banda and Madinga will miss due to logistical problems. Defender Cholopi will not make the trip due to Covid-19.

Malawi is supposed to play Tanzania on Sunday, 13th June in preparation for the African Cup of nations which will take place in Cameroon next year.
